So The New York Times has been running this ad pretty regularly on the east coast, much to the chagrin of TV watchers who are tired of it apparently.
So, naturally, a brilliant parody of it has cropped up, thanks to the 92nd St Y. "The Pictures of Goats Section!"

Adorable Politics
You may have seen this before now, but it's just so cute I had to post it. These students at the Ron Clark Academy have been studying politics this year with mock debates and, well, raps apparently. Some parts are a little tough to understand so they lyrics are posted below.
Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like…
(McCain supporters)
McCain’s the best candidate
With Palin as his running mate
They’ll fight for gun rights, pro life,
The conservative right
Our future is bright
Better economy in site
And all the world will feel our military might
I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA,
Stick wit McCain you gone have some drama
MORE WAR IN IRAQ
Iran he will attack
CAN’T BRING OUR TROOPS BACK
We gotta vote Barack!
(Obama supporters)
But McCain and Bush are real close right
They vote alike and keep it tight
Obama’s new, he’s younger too
The Middle Class he will help you
He’ll bring a change, he’s got the brains
McCain and Bush are just the same
You are to blame, Iraq’s a shame
Four more years would be insane
Lower your Taxes - you know Obama Won’t
PROTECT THE LOWER CLASS - You know McCain won’t!
Have enough experience - you know that they don’t
STOP GLOBAL WARMING - you know that you won’t
I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA
Stick with McCain and you’re going to have some drama
We need it
HE’LL BRING IT
He’ll be it
YOU’LL SEE IT
We’ll do it
GET TO IT
Let’s move it
DO IT!
I’m talking big pipe lines, and low gas prices
Below $2.00 that would be nice
But to do it right we gotta start today
Finding renewable ways that are here to stay
Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Hurricane Gustav Relief
After getting all angry watching Sarah Palin last night, I soothed myself by watching this video from Tuesday's Daily Show. Jon Stewart and his team made it all better. [or watch it here]

Greatest Ever Played
As I’ve said before, I am a huge devotee of both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, so watching them play one another with so much passion and such great skill was (like McEnroe had to have said at least a half dozen times) an honor.
One thing that those of us in the US didn’t get to catch was a commercial the BBC had filmed in case of a rain delay. (Good thing there were two.) The network had each player read passages from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If,” from which two lines are engraved over the entrance to Centre Court: If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster/And treat those two impostors just the same.
It’s incredible that these two players did just that—meet triumph and disaster—with such grace and respect for one another. It only makes it more difficult for me to choose who I’ll root for at the US Open.
The video, although a little maudlin with the music, is touching, particularly given the tension during the time it aired. Check it (and the poem) out below.
If by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And - which is more - you’ll be a Man my son!

How the West Was “Punked” by Some Russian Director You’ve Never Heard Of
Remember that video of the Russian worker flipping out and how most of us wondered if it was just some kind of viral marketing stunt? Big surprise—it WAS.
However, I’m not sure how successful it was because the connection between the viral video to the product it markets (which is, for the record, the movie Wanted, due out on June 27) is a hazy one. Essentially, the director, Timur Bekmanbetov, wanted to show what stepping outside your boundaries was like…and um, how gullible the West is. He explains all of this (in Russian—feel free to go translate) on his livejournal. (Insert only-emos-and-14-year-olds–use-livejournals joke here.)
Really, Timur? Don’t you see how posting a video that has nothing to do with your movie might confuse people? Especially all of us stupid Americans? Or even your own comrades who were posting news stories about it? All you had to do to get an American to go see your movie was market your stars Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy. Especially James McAvoy. Mm… You see, we’re really that shallow and not all that complicated, but thanks for the video anyway.

Video of the Moment
So this video of a (most likely Rusisan) office worker totally losing it has been circling the Internetz in the last few days. Rumors abound about it—is it more viral marketing? (Maybe it’s Careerbuilder getting all Sarah Marshall on us: I’m so over you, Corporate Job!)
If it’s real, we’re left with some questions:
- What is wrong with this guy?
- How long does it take to get a taser on a nutjob?
- Is this what Russia is really like?
If it is viral marketing, it leaves us with a couple questions:
- What is wrong with viral marketers?
- How long does it take for viral marketing to finally lose its edge?
- Is this what PR firms think Russia is like?

Move over Obama
As Elizabeth Edwards said, lots of us wanted to know more about Mike Gravel and his positions while determining the Democratic candidate. (At the very least, I wanted CNN's senior political analyst to pronounce his name correctly.) After this video, I definitely want to know as much about this man as possible... especially since he can dance better than Obama and David Gregory combined.

When Penguins Fly
You have really got to hand it to the BBC and The Telegraph. Their April Fool's joke--Flying Penguins Found by BBC Programme--takes the cake. The print version of the story (also online) led people to the newspaper's online video page (and the BBC iPlayer). Perhaps this prank is better than Google's Custom Time joke because it's such a marketing plug for the new video player... aaaaaaand it features flying penguins. So up-points there, too.

"I'm constipated--couldn't give a shit"
I'm surprised I hadn't seen this kid yet, but I stumbled upon his videos yesterday on YouTube. Apparently Bo Burnham is 17 years old, lives somewhere in Massachusetts, and is a bona fide punster. I promise, you'll be addicted. I'm posting my favorite video here, although another great one is his Rehab Center for Fictional Characters.

New Year, New You
In the spirit of the new year, I redesigned! Exciting news, I know. For the record, that is me in the header. But I'm in Mexico--not Ohio. Or Chicago. Or New York. Not really anywhere in the United States, but whatever.
In other news, this video is my new favorite thing. Backstory: Australian 15-year-old throws massive party that gets way out of control. Guests rampage on neighbors' properties, police cars, and damages total in the range of $20,000. Here, we get to see this young Australian Tom Cruise (a la Risky Business, pre-Scientology while channeling the same self-importance), his nipple ring, and his famous sunglasses.
